Three ways to fly to Europe

Giving you more choice on your travels to Europe, we’ve added another way to fly to London; from March 2018 you’ll be able to fly to London from Australia via Singapore with Qantas on our A380. This is in addition to the direct Australia to London service on the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. And if you want to fly via Dubai, you can continue to do so with Emirates and earn Qantas Points. If you book the QF flight number on Emirates you can earn Status Credits too. Bookings for the new services are on sale now.

Here’s to a new era of flying

The delivery of our eight Qantas Dreamliners start next month in preparation for our first Melbourne to Los Angeles flight in December, before commencing our game-changing, non-stop service from Perth to London in March 2018. Designed specifically for maximum comfort on long-haul sectors across all cabins, it’s perfect for business travellers. Innovative built-in features help reduce jetlag and improve your overall travel experience.

We also recently gave Airbus and Boeing the challenge to see how their next-generation aircraft can be developed to make direct flights possible from Sydney to London and Melbourne to New York.

Our spring menu has sprung

With Neil Perry at the helm, you know there’s always something new cooking.

Our Domestic routes will feature a new protein rich brunch plate which includes a boiled egg and a kale and quinoa salad with tahini dressing, as well as a hearty dish of roast pork neck served with a corn puree, grilled zucchini, and a tomato salsa.

Some of the dinner options in International First and Business cabins include: an entree of zucchini flowers stuffed with goat’s cheese; and main courses including a red mole and hazelnut braised beef served with soft tortillas and a tomato and jalapeno salsa; and lemon spiced chicken served with a cassoulet of white beans and chorizo with baby greens.

Lounge and cabin upgrades

We’re always looking at how we can improve your experience on the ground and in the air. We’ve just announced the major cabin upgrade of our 12 A380s to improve comfort on long haul flights. Changes include more Business Class and Premium Economy seats and new Business Suites, dubbed ‘mini First Class’ by many of our members, to replace the Business Class Skybeds. First Class will be fully refurbished and there will be a new passenger lounge on the upper deck for First and Business Class customers.

We’re also upgrading the Qantas Domestic Business Lounge and Qantas Club at Melbourne Airport to provide more seating and new dining options before you fly. We’ve also promised to make the coffee “top-notch” to reflect one of the things Melbourne is best known for.

Fly our A330 to Auckland

Enjoy new standards of luxury on-board our refurbished A330 now flying on selected flights from Sydney to Auckland. With Business Suites designed in collaboration with Marc Newson, they offer fully-flat beds and direct aisle access in a 1-2-1 layout to allow you to experience luxurious comfort, delicious cuisine, and our warm friendly service.

New bespoke tableware

We have recently unveiled a new range of inflight tableware by Australian Industrial Designer and lead designer of the 787 Dreamliner cabin interiors, David Caon. The range of crockery, flatware and glassware will be used inflight in International First, Business, Premium Economy and Domestic Business as well as the First and Business Lounges, and Qantas Clubs.   Platinum One Interview

Leanne Whitehouse, founder and CEO of Whitehouse Institute of Design

We love chatting with our Platinum One members. This month, we talk to Leanne, who's been a member since 1998 and Platinum One since 2015.

Best piece of travel luggage and why?

Marc Newson’s Horizon suitcase by LV: I have had my Horizon for over a year and treasure the moment I bought it because it has enhanced my life. It’s beautifully engineered, it’s chic and it’s very cool. I use my Horizon every time I travel and most days it is used as my work briefcase. The smooth, quiet and absolutely elegant carry-on size case comes with me everywhere.

Why is it different? Not only is it designed exquisitely but it’s super light weight and the 4 wheel structure with the external cane allows for a completely flat bottom with lots of extra carry space and a level platform on top for a handbag. As I race around airports, cities, fashion centres or just walking to work the Horizon gives me that little bit of extra balance, while looking elegant and being multi functional.

Best Hotel you’ve ever stayed in and why?

Le Royal Monceau, Avenue Hoche, Paris.

Designed by Philippe Starck the Parisian palace hotel Le Royal Monceau is a designers dream.

Every room and every piece of furniture, to every carefully orchestrated brush stroke on the ceiling of the dining room has been executed with a designers eye.

Starck’s clever design wit engages you, from the 23 chandeliers in the stairwell on the way to the restaurant bathrooms, to the enormously oversized lampshades and the interior design individuality of every room and suite. All the wonderful design journey you experience while staying at Le Royal Monceau just adds to the outstanding service you receive from all the staff at the hotel.

Every staff member has the uncanny knack of making you feel like you are the only guest staying there and that you have returned home to special friends.

It's design heaven.

Best restaurant in the world and why?

Le Plage de Graniers, Saint Tropez, FR.

Situated on the water's edge of a small, quiet sleepy beach in the gulf of Saint Tropez and a 10 minute stroll from the bustling port of Saint Tropez lies Le Plage de Graniers restaurant.

While the south of France is famous for dancing on tables and very loud music, lunch time hosts and co owners Virginie and Boo Boo have created a relaxed and quiet piece of beach paradise.

They serve crisp green salads mixed with Thai mussels and fresh lobsters and the freshest catch of the day. Predominantly seafood, tasty vegetarian and meat dishes are also served.

Swim, sunbake and eat all day and into the evening on either the terrace, sun bed or beach, then walk or take the chauffeur driven electric mini moke style car home. It is fun and the food is great.

Meet Susan Dow

How long have you worked at Qantas? 8 years

What is your favourite travel destination? There are so many, but I have to say Antarctica, because it is so hard to get to and the most beautiful place on earth because of it. Only the very dedicated traveller can handle crossing the Drake Passage, but it is well worth the effort.

Your one travel tip for a Platinum One member? Always make sure you check passport validity. I have 5 passports to check for my family and they all expire at different times. It is a never ending renewal of passport process.

Did you know? If you're travelling on a flexible Qantas domestic fare, arrive at the airport earlier than planned, and want to catch an earlier available flight, any fare differential will be waived even if the same fare class is not available.

Whenever you need us, simply email or call the phone numbers displayed on Your Account.
